Child Custody Arrangements - How to Negotiate the Best Arrangement For Your Child Saturday 4 October 2008 @ 8:06 pm We all want the best for our kids, whether it’s the best schools, the best opportunities and even the best arrangements when it comes to child custody. The first thing we must realize is that cutting our ex spouse out of our child’s life in order to hurt the spouse is NOT what’s best for the child. Never keep your child away from your spouse because you are angry at them.

Child Support Question and moving overseas…?
I am divorced with a 7 year old son. I am currently paying child support and have custody of my child although it is not "joint" custody. I do have shared legal custody. I was offered a position overseas. However, I was in a high conflict divorce and the child's mother and I communicate mostly through attorneys unless it is for routine matters. What steps need to be taken if I decide to take a position overseas for one year?

    My concerns:

*I will continue to pay child support. I do not want to lose custody rights once I am overseas.

*I want access to my children when I return. I have a court ordered temporary custody arrangement in place at this time.

*Should I change custody arrangements or negotiate child support while overseas and keep the current arrangement?

    Thanks..

You need to contact your lawyer to set all of this up and protect your rights. Also if you don't have your passport, get it …..child support division can delay its process or even have it denied.. Your EX and the courts need to be aware of your intentions and your lawyer should be able to do all of this.

I would definately see a lawyer about this one. Personally I would be trying to organise this all before you go overseas. In the past my husband and I have had to deal with courts overseas and its not easy!

Which ever country you go to (if they are apart of the Hauge Convention), can collect the child support for the country the child resides in. You can find a list on the internet.

    Goodluck!
